Washington, D.C.-The Salem College basketball team completed a sweep of the Great South Regular Season and Tournament Championship with an 82-72 win over Pine Manor today at Trinity Washington. The Spirits will find out their destination in the NCAA Tournament tomorrow at 2:30 pm during the NCAA Selection Show on www.ncaa.com. Salem improves to 21-4, while Pine Manor concludes their season at 21-4.
Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) earned Great South Tournament Most Valuable Player to go along with her GSAC Most Valuable Player Award. She finished with 27 points in the win. She also led the game with 15 rebounds.
The Spirits flew out of the gates in the first half, controlling the entire half. They went into the break with a 45-30 advantage. Pine Manor was able to cut the lead to 63-62 with under ten minutes to go. The Spirits turned it on at the end of the game, and they proved to be too much for Pine Manor, outscoring them 19-10 when it mattered.
Quanashea Lewis (Hartford, CT) continued her strong tournament play with 19 points on 9-14 from the field. Seniors, Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) and Tiffany Wildgoose (Nassau, Bahamas), finished with 11 and 10 points respectively. Bianca Ritchwood (Columbia, SC) led the game with 8 assists.
Salem finished Great South play with a 6-0 record against Great South competition.
