Basketball Wins 9th In a Row

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Satavia Taylor scored a game-high 22 points in Salem College’s 93-28 nonconference win over visiting Valley Forge Christian College Thursday evening. It was the Spirits’ ninth consecutive victory.

Salem (9-3) dominated both sides of the court. The Spirits amassed 22 steals on defense, 10 of which belonged to Zykeya Henderson. Salem jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first five minutes. They scored eight unanswered points and were ahead 18-3 with 11:35 on the clock in the first half. At halftime, the hosts led 45-18.

The Spirits went on a 31-2 run to start the second half and never turned back.

Four Salem players ended the game in double-digit scoring. Henderson also contributed 19 points and a game-high five assists. Jasmine Shabazz and Kristal Lollis scored 18 and 14 points, respectively.  Quantashea Lewis paced the Spirits with eight rebounds. Shabazz and Alexihonna Bush had seven boards apiece.

Valley Forge Christian’s Ariene Ohimor grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Patience Ekuta led the team in scoring with eight points. Mikala Brinson added seven.

The Spirits return home Saturday in the Spirit Center when they host Agnes Scott College at 2:00 pm.
