ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for all contests played September 29 – October 5 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Salem's Tarryn Bundy claimed Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Agnes Scott's Shakirah Dodson collected Volleyball Player of the Week and Serena Tsang of Mills captured Runner of the Week.
GSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week – Tarryn Bundy of Salem
Tarryn Bundy, a junior from West Deptford, N.J., helped Salem to a 2-0 week last week on the soccer field. Bundy scored a goal in a 4-0 win over Guilford at home. She also had a goal and two assists in a 5-0 GSAC match at Agnes Scott. Bundy is currently tied for first in assists in the Great South.
GSAC Volleyball Player of the Week – Shakirah Dodson of Agnes Scott
Dodson was an instrumental player in guiding the Scotties to three wins last week. In the win over against Huntingdon, she tallied 26 assists, hit .200, and had 10 digs. En route to topping Toccoa Falls, she had 39 assists, hit .400, had 10 digs and one solo block. She capped her week in the victory against Wesleyan with 29 assists, hit .333, had 11 digs, and collected one service ace.
GSAC Cross Country Runner of the Week – Serena Tsang of Mills
Junior runner Serena Tsang led her teammates at this past weekend's race, finishing first out of the eleven Mills runners. Mills raced in the Sonoma State Invitational against several D-II and NAIA opponents. In a field of strong runners and on a hilly course, Tsang finished in the middle of the pack, with a 6k time of 27:13.63. Her time on Saturday was a full 1 minute and 42 seconds faster than her 6k personal best at last year's Bronco Invitational.
The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
