Britni Mohney will take over a basketball program that won theGreat South Athletic Conference Tournament this past season, and astrong running program at Salem. She has a history of playing andcoaching at three different NCAA Division III schools.
Salem went 21-5 last season and won both the GSAC Regular Seasonand Tournament titles. The team advanced to the NCAA Division IIITournament for the first time in program history. They return alarge portion of the team, and there are several new first-yearsthat will provide valuable minutes.
The track and field and cross country teams both had successful2013-14 seasons. Both programs set several school records, and theyeach have the majority of runners returning.
Mohney said, “It is my goal to continue the success of thebasketball and cross country/track and field program, as well ascontinue their growth and tradition of having high standards forourselves as competitors. It is truly an honor to begin my journeywith Salem College and I look forward to working with the students,faculty, and staff to make this opportunity a success.”
Mohney comes to Salem from Keuka College in New York. At Keuka,Mohney was the assistant women’s basketball coach and thecross country coach for both men and women for the past year. Herduties with the two teams at Keuka included scouting, recruiting,scheduling, and practice planning.
Keuka reached the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)Semifinal Game this past season. They had three student-athletesearn All-NEAC honors. The Storm were second in conference play inthe NEAC regular season.
Prior to Keuka, Mohney was the graduate assistant basketballcoach at Utica College in New York. At Utica, she was incharge of scouting, recruiting, budgeting, and conducting studyhalls along with other duties. While she was at Utica, she alsoreceived her Masters of Business Administration in Economic Crimeand Fraud Management.
Mohney played four years of basketball at Allegheny College inPennsylvania. She was the captain of the team her senior season in2010-11. At Allegheny, she won the best all-around player award in2008. She was a four-year member of Allegheny’s StudentAthlete Advisory Council. Mohney’s basketball team atAllegheny qualified for the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC)postseason tournament all four years.
Mohney graduated from Ford City High School in Pennsylvania,where she played basketball and ran track.
“Having this opportunity to join Salem College and theAthletic Department has been a very rewarding experience,”said Mohney. “Being on campus, I had already felt asense of comfort not just from the atmosphere, but from the peoplewho work at Salem College.”
