Eric James- Associate Athletic Director

Eric James

Eric James serves as the Associate Athletic Director at Salem College, where he provides leadership and oversight for athletic operations, facilities, strength and conditioning, external engagement, and student-athlete development. In his role, he oversees game day operations, athletic facilities, camps and clinics, facility rentals, the Salem Athletics Booster Club, corporate sponsorship initiatives, and serves as the department liaison to campus facilities, public safety, and event services. He also serves as the sport supervisor for women's basketball and cheerleading while leading the department's strength and conditioning efforts.

James brings more than three decades of experience in athletics administration, coaching, operations, and leadership. Prior to joining Salem College, he served as the Assistant Director of Athletics Facilities and Operations at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. There, he managed athletic facility scheduling, coordinated internal and external events, supervised operational staff and student workers, oversaw facility maintenance projects, and collaborated closely with public safety and campus partners to ensure safe and successful events. His efforts helped maximize facility usage, enhance the student-athlete experience, and generate 2 million revenue through rentals and partnerships.

In addition to his administrative expertise, James has an extensive coaching background. He served as Head Women's Basketball Coach at Medgar Evers College, where he was responsible for recruiting, player development, strength and conditioning, budget management, public relations, and overall program operations. He also previously served as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Medgar Evers College, helping student-athletes develop their skills both on and off the court.

Before transitioning full-time into athletics administration, James built a successful career in the legal field, serving in leadership and operational roles with several prominent New York law firms. His experience managing complex schedules, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and maintaining operational excellence has proven invaluable in his work within collegiate athletics.

Known for his leadership, organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and collaborative approach, James is committed to creating an outstanding experience for Salem College student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and supporters. His philosophy, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together," reflects his belief in teamwork, service, and building lasting success through meaningful relationships.

One Salem. One Team. One Tradition.
