Jai'Lyn Lover serves as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Salem College, bringing a wealth of experience in player development, leadership, mentorship, recruiting, and program operations. A passionate educator and coach, Lover is committed to helping student-athletes excel both on the court and in the classroom while fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and competitive excellence.
A former collegiate student-athlete, Lover's basketball journey began at an early age, competing at the varsity level from seventh through twelfth grade before continuing her playing career at Huntingdon College. During her four years as a collegiate athlete, she developed a deep understanding of the game, leadership, teamwork, and the dedication required to compete at the collegiate level.
Lover joins Salem College following a successful coaching tenure at Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she served as the First Assistant Coach for the varsity boys basketball program. In that role, she was heavily involved in all aspects of the program, including practice planning, game preparation, scouting, player development, and daily basketball operations. She also played a key role in mentoring student-athletes, organizing team activities, coordinating travel, supporting fundraising initiatives, and strengthening community engagement efforts.
Her coaching experience extends beyond the high school ranks, with leadership roles in youth basketball, developmental programs, semi-professional organizations, and minor league basketball teams throughout North Carolina and Alabama. Across every level, Lover has established herself as a coach who prioritizes relationship-building, skill development, and empowering athletes to reach their full potential.
Known for her energy, passion, and ability to connect with student-athletes, Lover is dedicated to creating an environment where players are challenged to grow as competitors, and leaders.. Her commitment to mentorship and holistic student-athlete development aligns closely with Salem College's mission of preparing women for success both during and beyond their collegiate experience.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Lover is pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned a Master of Education in Higher Educationfrom the University of West Alabama and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Huntingdon College.
As a member of the Salem College Women's Basketball staff, Lover plays an integral role in recruiting, player development, academic support, scouting, and program culture as the Spirits continue building a championship-caliber program both on and off the court.
