Sarah Horan

Sarah Horan joined the Department of Athletics at Salem College on August 1, 2024, after spending the last year at Presbyterian College. Horan served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Blue Hose, working directly the Acrobatics and Tumbling as well as the cheerleading team. 

Horan also assisted with football, tennis and softball during her year at Presbyterian College. In her role she coordinated referrals with nutritionist, psychologist, team medical personnel as well as surgeon’s in hospital system to assist her student-athletes. Horan managed to use her medical administration experience to assist in pre-participation clearance and insurance paperwork. 

Horan graduated from Michigan State with a bachelor of science kinesiology in December 2020 and continued her education in East Lansing, Michigan, where she earned a master of athletic training in May 2023. 

Over a three-year stretch at Michigan State, Horan worked directly with the Spartans’ women’s soccer (2021), women’s gymnastics (2021), women’s rowing (2022), football (2022) and women’s volleyball programs (2022). 

In January 2023, Horan spent time in Winston-Salem, working with the North Carolina School of the Arts. She performed rehabilitations on stress fractures and varying injuries while providing muscle energy techniques for her students. Additionally, she assisted in running the weekly sports medicine clinic. 

Horan gained clinical experience during her educational experience at Michigan State through summer camps, the Spartan Invitational, with the cheer and dance teams as well as through a spine evaluation class. 

In 2022, Horan attended the IADMS conference in Limerick, Ireland where she educated herself on the newest research in dance for biomechanics, point screen testing and improved equipment. 

Horan holds certifications with the Performing Arts Athletic Trainer’s Society, NATA, International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. She is also certified in CPR and AED and has a membership with the NPI and has a SCAT license.Â
