WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – With a pair of three-set victories over N.C. Wesleyan (25-14, 25-16, 25-13) and Carolina University (25-14, 25-17, 25-11) on Saturday afternoon, the Salem volleyball team extended its current winning streak to five and their home court streak to 13 consecutive at Varsity Gym.
Senior
Anna Rymer was among the top performers on offense, combining for 23 kills in the victories, as she moved to within two kills of 1,000 in her collegiate volleyball career. Joining her among the offensive leaders in the victories were
Aspen Bradley (17 kills),
Ellie Scherer (17),
Abrielle Eckenroth (15). Meanwhile, first-year setter
Leah Rymer dished out 66 assists along with five service aces.
The Salem defensive attack was led by the combination of Anna and
Leah Rymer along with junior
McKenzie Tullock and sophomore
Makailey Albright.

The Spirits closed out their eighth consecutive win in the series with N.C. Wesleyan behind an 11-kill performance from
Anna Rymer. Joining Rymer among the offensive leaders were Scherer, who closed with 10 kills along with Bradley and Eckenroth, who came through with nine kills apiece.
With
Leah Rymer quarterbacking the offense with 38 assists, Salem combined for 45 kills and a .394 attack percentage in the victory. Eckenroth posted a .615 attack percentage, while Scherer finished with a .533 attack percentage in the three-set win.
Leah Rymer also came through with nine digs, while Albright, Tullock and
Olivia Torres contributed six digs apiece.
FIRST SET: The Spirits surrendered just three points in the first 15 and used four Eckenroth kills to their advantage as they established a 12-3 lead. Scherer added two of her own, while
Leah Rymer contributed one with Albright in serve, as the Salem lead grew to 17-6. After watching the lead be cut to 10 on two occasions, a service ace from Tullock along with two Bradley kills down the stretch completed the 11-point win where Salem posted a .406 attack percentage in the frame.
SECOND SET: The Battling Bishops matched Salem's offense early in the second set, assuming a 5-4 lead, but it was a slam from Scherer followed by kills from
Anna Rymer and
Maia Johnson, along with an
Olivia Torres ace that gave Salem a 9-5 edge. The trio of Bradley, Scherer and
Anna Rymer added slams during an 8-5 run, that allowed the Spirits to forge in front 17-10. The Battling Bishops countered by scoring five of the next nine points, before kills from both Bradley and
Leah Rymer slammed the door with the second set victory.
THIRD SET: The Spirits came through with 16 kills and a .389 attack percentage in the third set, running out to an 8-2 lead to open the match with
Leah Rymer in serve and Bradley driving home three kills. Separated by just four points, 11-7, Salem capitalized on a series of slams by Johnson, to stretch the lead to 15-8. Both Bradley and
Anna Rymer had kills, and combined on a block, to help the Spirits lead reach 21-10.
Anna Rymer, Scherer and Eckenroth penetrated the Battling Bishops' defense down the stretch to close out the sweep.

Anna Rymer's strong offensive performance continued in Salem's second clash with the Bruins in as many weekends. Rymer delivered 12 kills, while Bradley added eight of her own and Scherer drove home seven. Rymer enjoyed the best attack percentage (.632) of the match, going errorless in 19 attacks, as Salem finished with 40 kills and a .290 attack percentage.
Anna Rymer also contributed eight digs while sister Leah dished out 28 assists to go along with six digs. Tullock equaled
Anna Rymer for the team-high in digs (eight).
FIRST SET: The Salem offense continued to click on all cylinders in the opening set against Carolina as the Spirits finished with a 16-6 edge in kills. Battling to an eight-all deadlock, Salem assumed the lead on a service ace from Torres. With the two separated by a pair, 13-11, and
Anna Rymer in serve, the Spirits stretched their lead to 21-11. That run consisted of five kills, including two from Scherer, and a Rymer service ace. Salem received four kills down the stretch, including the game-winner from Johnson, to grab the 1-0 lead.
SECOND SET: The Bruins again came out strong out of the gate, tying Salem at five, before the strength of an Eckenroth kill and a service ace by Albright, allowed for a two-point lead. That margin doubled with a series of strikes from
Anna Rymer and a service ace by
Leah Rymer, as the Spirits moved in front 13-9. Separated by two, 17-15, in the latter stages, Salem converted two kills and capitalized on two Bruins' miscues as the lead grew to 22-15. Torres and
Anna Rymer drove home kills, while Tullock added a service ace, to help Salem cinch the eight-point victory.
THIRD SET: The Spirits seized the opportunity to close out their 16th straight win in the head-to-head series by opening the third set with nine consecutive points as
Leah Rymer held serve. Scherer and Johnson added kills, resulting in a 14-5 lead, before slams by
Leah Rymer and
Anna Rymer pushed that margin to 19-6. The tandem of
Anna Rymer and Bradley put Salem over the 20-point mark while kills from Eckenroth and Johnson completed the sweep of the Bruins.
