Nieto Tallies 18th Goal in Clash with Meredith

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Junior Darilyn Nieto drove home a pass from Giselle Ramos, netting her 18th goal of the season, but Meredith countered with four goals of its own in a USA South Conference clash at Varsity Field on Saturday afternoon. 

Nieto's goal came in the 83rd minute for the Spirits following Ramos' third assist of the slate. 

Meredith assumed a 1-0 lead in the match when Rebecca Morrison put a shot in the back of the net in the 43rd minute. The Avenging Angels stretched that lead to 2-0 on a goal from Morrison in the 59th minute. 

Kate Conoley converted a pass from teammate Evelyn Hopkins into the third Avenging Angels' goal of the match in the 73rd minute. 

Just over a minute after Nieto came through with her 18th strike of the season, third in USA South Conference action, Savannah Wallrich put the fourth and final Meredith goal in net. 

Meredith closed out its ninth win of the season with 23 shots (nine shots on goal), led by Kathryn Angrave, who tallied four shots (two SOG). Nieto led the way for Salem with eight shots as the Spirits attempted 11 over the course of the match. Ramos attempted two shots of her own. 

Marissa Doutrich closed the match with 11 saves for Salem while Khaliah Jones had two in net for Meredith.
