ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Salem volleyball team equaled its single-season program record in wins (23) as the Spirits conducted a pair of sweeps against N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mount, N.C., by scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-15, 25-21, 25-21. The victories moved Salem's winning streak to 12 matches and marks the 14th sweep by the unit in 2024. 

Junior Aspen Bradley led the way for the Salem offensive attack, combining for 23 kills and a .326 attack percentage in 49 total attacks. Teammate Ellie Scherer came through with 11 kills in the opening match of the day between the two, while Anna Rymer combined for 10 in the two matches. 

First year setter Leah Rymer made her presence felt with 61 assists in six sets played, while McKenzie Tullock tallied 21 digs in the two matches. 

Salem has recorded nine 3-0 sweeps during its current 12-match winning streak, including six straight. 

FIRST MATCH: Salem 3, N.C. Wesleyan 0

Aspen Bradley came through with 12 kills while teammate Ellie Scherer added 11 as Salem posted a 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 in the opening match of the afternoon. Joining the pair with solid performances were Anna Rymer and Maia Johnson, who came through with seven kills, while Leah Rymer dished out 32 assists. 

Five Spirits reached double-digit digs, including McKenzie Tullock, who led the way with 15. Also reaching the mark were Leah Rymer (13), Anna Rymer (12), Olivia Torres (11) and Bradley, who completed a double-double outing with 10 digs. Salem also got a solid defensive front row performance from Scherer, who came through with two assisted blocks. 

FIRST SET: Salem battled through a sluggish first set, posting 11 kills along the way, establishing a 10-3 lead on a kill from Scherer and a block by Johnson. Five kills, including three from Bradley, Eckenroth and Anna Rymer, coupled with attack errors allowed Salem to establish a 19-10 advantage. Eckenroth and Scherer delivered kills down the stretch, while Bradley added a service ace, to complete the 11-point win. 

SECOND SET: Salem found its offensive rhythm in the second set, closing with 15 kills and a .239 attack percentage. After grabbing an 8-4 lead on a Johnson slam, Salem saw its lead dwindle to two, but retaliated with two service aces by Torres to make for a 12-6 lead. After seeing the two teams trade points, Salem capitalized on slams from Johnson and Scherer to forge in front 21-12. N.C. Wesleyan answered with a rally of its own, slicing the margin to 22-18, before Anna Rymer and Bradley delivered kills to notch the 25-20 win. 

THIRD SET: With the opportunity to close out the three-set decision, Salem seized the moment with 16 kills and a .278 attack percentage in the frame, while limiting the Battling Bishops' offensive attack to just eight kills (0.053 attack pct.) along the way. After falling behind 5-4 in the early going, Salem used a series of slams from Anna Rymer and Bradley, along with a Leah Rymer ace, to assume the 16-9 lead. After N.C. Wesleyan tallied four unanswered points, cutting the margin to 17-15, two kills down the stretch from the trio of Scherer, Bradley and Anna Rymer completed the sweep. 

SECOND MATCH: Salem 3, N.C. Wesleyan 0

Aspen Bradley proved to be the nemesis to the N.C. Wesleyan defense as she drove home a match-high 11 kills while finishing with a .421 attack percentage, helping Salem move its win streak to 13 straight matches. Joining Bradley among the offensive leaders was Ella Brameus and Jacie Jarvis, who tallied six and five kills, respectively. 

First year setter Leah Rymer dished out 29 assists, while adding six digs. Equaling Rymer's six-dig performance were Molly Enos and McKenzie Tullock. Salem hit a collective .275 attack percentage, while the Battling Bishops managed just a .133. 

FIRST SET: Brameus made an impact immediately in the Salem rotation, delivering two kills as the Spirits established a 9-5 lead in the early stages of the first set. Jarvis contributed a kill of her own, while Bradley added three to help Salem stretch its lead to 18-10. The junior trio of Bradley, Brameus and Bella Mann continued to penetrate the N.C. Wesleyan defense with kills as Salem completed the 10-point win with 16 kills and a .333 attack percentage in the frame. 

SECOND SET: Brameus again provided an offensive punch in the early stages, helping give Salem a slim 10-9 lead to open the second set. Makailey Albright added two kills of her own as the Spirits lead notched their 12th point. Albright delivered two kills in a critical stretch for Salem, resulting in a 19-16 advantage. The two units battled to a 20-all deadlock before slams down the stretch by Brameus and Haley King provided Salem with the two-set lead. 

THIRD SET: The two teams continued to trade points in the third, reaching a 10-all deadlock. A four-point run by Salem, highlighted by two Jolina Bun service aces, along with timely kills from Bradley, Jarvis and Adalyn Raney moved the Spirits' lead to 19-12. Oliva Torres delivered a service ace, while Johnson and LindaGrace York slammed home kills down the stretch to provide the Spirits with their 14th sweep of the season.
