Salem Soccer took on the top-ranked Brevard Tornados today at home where they fell 4-0.
Taking on a high scoring and offensively minded Brevard squad, the Spirits were prepared to take a defensive stand. Despite the Tornados finding six shot opportunities in the first 20 minutes, the Salem back line stayed strong and did not provide them any grade A chances. Michaela Iapaluccio was a brick wall in the net, snagging five saves in the first 33 minutes of the half. Despite Salem's strong effort, the Tornados were able to break through in the 43rd minute, going into halftime up 1-0.
Brevard picked up right where they left off, finding the back of the net less than three minutes into half two. The Tornados put up seven shots in the next ten minutes, three of which were saved by Iapaluccio. While the Spirits continued to defend well, Brevard was able to score again in the 63rd minute. After this goal, Salem was able to tack on a few shots of their own, coming from both Pilar Neumann and Darilyn Nieto. The Tornados found another scoring opportunity in the 89th minute, bringing the final score to 4-0.
Michaela Iapaluccio racked up 14 saves in the contest, only two behind her game high.
The Spirits will next be in action on Saturday for their Senior Night, where they take on William Peace at 2pm.
