After a time and location change due to weather, Salem Soccer traveled to Greensboro for their last regular season game, falling 4-0.
The Salem defense was tested early and often, facing eight shots in the first half. The Pride found a grade A chance quickly, finding the back of the net in the eighth minute. Greensboro kept their momentum rolling, scoring again 10 minutes later. The Spirits back line was not deterred, fending off the remainder of Greensboro's attacks for the final 25 minutes of half one.
Defense continued to face attacks from the Pride, with Goalkeeper Michaela Iapaluccio racking up four saves in the first ten minutes of half two. Greensboro, however, was able to break through again, scoring in the 64th minute. Wanting to find an answer, Darilyn Nieto was able to generate some offense, firing off a shot 20 seconds later. Despite a solid push back, the Pride offense wasn't done yet, scoring a final time in the 69th minute. Not going down without a fight, the Spirits put up their best offensive performance of the evening in the last 20 minutes of half two. Salem found four more chances at goal, three coming from Nieto and one from Pilar Neumann. Unable to find the perfect opportunity, the contest ended at 4-0 in favor of the Pride.
Despite the loss tonight, Salem had already clinched a spot in USA South Postseason play. They will be traveling to take on Brevard College on Saturday at 5pm.
