Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Loses First Home Game to #1 Seeded Greensboro

With a packed house, Salem Volleyball took on #1 seeded Greensboro at home. After four tightly contested sets, the Pride ultimately prevailed 3-1.

Set one ended with the largest margin of victory of the four, going the way of the Spirits 25-17. The Pride got off to a hot start, taking the first three straight points. Salem had a quick answer, tying it up at 3-3, foreshadowing how tight much of the contest would be. After going down 4-6, the Spirits went on a five point run with two kills from Bella Mann and one from Sadie Rich. Salem did not drop the lead again for the remainder of the set. After going up 13-10, a kill from Ella Brameus set off another five point run for the Spirits, capitalizing on a few Greensboro errors. Salem kept their momentum rolling with kills from Mann, Aspen Bradley, and even Libero Madison Bozarth to ultimately secure a one set lead.

Set two started out close once again, with Salem holding a small lead. After the Spirits went up 8-6, the two teams traded one point back and forth until they reached 13-11. Greensboro began to find their momentum, winning three straight then pushing above at 15-14. Salem regained the lead 16-15, but were unable to hold on. Rattling off five straight thanks to some good offense and serving, Greensboro found themselves up 20-16. The Spirits were able to pull themselves within two on multiple occasions, but the Pride ultimately prevailed 25-22.

Greensboro started out set three strong, winning seven of the first eight points. Salem, however, was not going down without a fight. Finding their offense again, the Spirits battled back to reach their first of six ties of the set at 15-15. Salem was the first to go on a solid hot streak after this, with kills from Jacie Jarvis and Brameus providing them a 24-21 lead. Taking this set the distance, the Pride saved two set points followed by three more to win 26-24.

Set four shaped up to be another competitive one, consisting of eight ties and four lead changes. The score stayed within two points up until 20-17 in favor of the Pride. The Spirits were not firing offensively as they had been in earlier sets, which Greensboro was taking advantage of. Six different Salem athletes were able to secure kills in this set, but were unable to string enough together to outlast the USA South #1 seed. The Pride took home the set four win 25-19.

Despite the loss, the Spirits had multiple athletes with solid statistical numbers. Aspen Bradley put up 16 kills, with Ella Brameus close behind with 13. Madison Bozarth, Jolina Bun, Leah Rymer, and Olivia Torres all put up double digits in the digs category with 16, 15, 12, and 12. Bradley slammed down four blocks and Bella Mann racked up three.

The Spirits will next be in action on Saturday where they play in a Tri-Match with NC Wesleyan and Roanoke.
