Volleyball Wins in Straight Sets

Salem Volleyball put up a dominant performance in their 3-0 win against conference opponent Brevard.

The Spirits started out strong, getting up to an early 13-6 lead with kills from Aspen Bradley, Sadie Rich, and Ariana Noplos. The Tornados had some answers for Salem's attacks, not letting them get more than a few points strung together until the Spirits hit 21. From there kills from Ella Brameus and Rich, as well as a few errors from Brevard sent Salem on a five point run. That run secured the 25-12 set one win.

Salem kept their momentum from set one flowing, winning 11 of the first 13 points, spurred on by kills from Brameus, Bradley, and Leah Rymer. The Tornados were able to secure a few points, but not enough to combat the two four point runs from the Spirits to finish out the set. Salem found a great offensive rhythm thanks to two kills from both Rymer and Bradley, plus one from Bella Mann, ultimately winning the set 25-11.

The Spirits took control of set three fairly early, firing on all cylinders. Racking up a few more kills and capitalizing on some Tornado errors, Salem's lead was as large as 22-8. Brevard started to make one final push, forcing the Spirits to play six more points before securing set point. The Tornados fought to hold Salem off for two set points, but Rich finished the match off with her fifth kill of the game.

The Spirits had a number of notable stats from the contest. The team put up five blocks, four of which came from Aspen Bradley. They also secured six aces, with Brameus getting credit for four. Madison Bozarth and Jolina Bun both had nine digs, Bradley led in kills with 10, and Rymer led in assists with 22. Rymer also racked up five kills on the day.

The Spirits will play in their second game of the week on Friday, where they travel to take on William Peace at 6pm.
