Salem Basketball traveled to take on William Peace for the second time this season, ultimately falling 69-48.
Â
Both teams got out to a solid start in the first quarter, with Catherine Jordan Cano opening the scoring for the Spirits. Jordan Cano knocked down two jumpers, keeping the score within one. Two made free throws after a strong take from Lauren Ringwood gave Salem the one-point lead, which grew to five after free throws from Cristina Battistini and a layup from Nicole Hester. A well-time three and a couple free throws from WPU tied it up, but it wasn't long before Battistini pulled it back in the Spirit's direction. The Pacers then knocked down their third three of the quarter, but were once again answered. Amy Pedroza hit a three of her own to give Salem a two point lead heading into the second frame.
Â
Hester and Triana Smallwood pushed the Spirits to their largest lead of the contest in the first 30 seconds in quarter two, both scoring in the paint. Despite the strong start, WPU was able to find their offense again, going on an eight-point run to take a two point lead. Hester snagged another two points, assisted by Battistini, to tie it up for what would be the second of four in the quarter. A three from Jordan Cano gave the Spirits back the lead, which she repeated after another answer from the Pacers. One final layup from WPU sent them into halftime even at 29.Â

The score stayed tight early in the third quarter, with neither team making much happen offensively until about three minutes in. Pedroza and Ringwood both made a layup and a free throw, keeping it within a few points until the Pacers started to pull away. Hester was able to snag one more layup before WPU went on an eight point run to close out the quarter, taking an 11 point leadÂ

The fourth quarter brought success for the Pacers and offensive struggles for the Spirits. Salem's first points of the quarter came from Ringwood, nailing two free throws, followed soon after by a layup from Pedroza. Ringwood hit three more free throws alongside two more from Battistini. The Pacers late 11-point run was broken by two final points in the paint from Hester. Ultimately, WPU defended their home court with a 69-48 win.Â

Salem's statistical leaders were Lauren Ringwood with 12 points, Nicole Hester with eight rebounds, and both Cristina Battistini and Hester with two assists.Â
