Salem Tennis hosted North Carolina Wesleyan today, falling 0-7.
The Bishops got off to a hot start in doubles, taking all three doubles matches. Charlize Green and LaKasia Williams fell first 0-6 at No. 1. The No. 3 duo of Adley Keim and Kimberly Ortiz-Mendoza were next, falling with an identical score. Daisy Ortiz-Mendoza and Yuridia Santana Dominguez snagged a game at No. 2, but were unable to break down NCW, also falling 1-6.
NCW kept their momentum rolling into singles, taking the win over Puja Lamsal at No. 6, 0-6, 0-6. K. Ortiz-Mendoza took two games in the first set at No. 4, but was outlasted and fell 2-6, 0-6. Green hit a solid stretch in her second set at No. 2, but was unable to string enough points together to take home the win, ultimately falling 0-6, 3-6. D. Ortiz Mendoza battled in her match at No. 5, but fell 0-6, 1-6.
Keim played a strong match, making her opponent sweat at No. 1. Despite securing a few break points, she was outlasted by the Bishops 2-6, 3-6. Williams closed out the day for the Spirits, making set two interesting after falling 0-6 in the first. She held the lead early in the second set, but was unable to stay ahead, ultimately falling 3-6.
The Spirits will next be in action on Saturday, where they travel to take on Johnson & Wales.
