USA South Rookie of the Week (April 22, 2024)

FIRST YEAR (2024): Capped off a solid first year at Salem by posting a .323 batting average in 35 games played … ranked in the Top-5 of five hitting categories, including RBI (22-1st), home runs (4-1st), doubles (7-2nd), batting average (.323-2nd) and hits (31-3rd) … made nine appearances, including eight starts, as a pitcher, where she tallied one victory … logged 25 innings, allowing 59 hits, 56 runs, 42 earned runs and fanned seven opposing hitters … capped off her collegiate debut, which came against Carolina University (Feb. 17) with two hits and two RBI … cracked her first collegiate home run in game two against Carolina University (Feb. 17), helping the Spirits post a 9-8 victory with two RBI … converted one double and one home run in a 2-for-5 outing, resulting in two runs, at St. Andrews (Feb. 22-Game 2) … slammed a home run against Wesleyan (Ga.) (Feb. 25-Game 1), where she accounted for three RBI … had the third multi-hit outing of the season (2-for-4) in the second game against Wesleyan (Ga.) (Feb. 25) … delivered a double at Agnes Scott (March 13-Game 2) … emerged with two hits and a run scored against Southern Virginia (April 10-Game 1) … finished a four-game stretch, against Brevard (April 16) and William Peace (April 20) where she hit .571, finishing 8-of-14 from the plate, while accounting for five RBI, three doubles and one home run and became the first player in program history to earn USA South Rookie of the Week honors … played a key role in helping the Spirits finish 2-2 on the week, posting a wins over Brevard by scores of 7-6 and 9-8 on April 16th … began the series against the Tornados by going 2-for-4 from the plate, connecting on a pair of doubles. Salem finished that game with five doubles from the quartet of Miller (two), Shelby LaPoint, Madeline Brown and Savanah Atkins which tied for the sixth-most doubles in a game in program history … in the nightcap of the series with Brevard, Miller delivered three hits, including a double, to complete the first sweep by the Spirits since March 20, 2023 versus Livingstone … hot-hitting continued in the series with William Peace, where she opened with two hits in three at bats ... In the second game against the Pacers, Miller capped off her week with a solo home run, her third of the season … closed the season on a three-game hitting streak, which began against Mary Baldwin (April 24-Game 2) and included a double at Methodist (April 27-Game 1) along with a single in game two of the series with the Monarchs (April 27) … made her first collegiate start in the circle against Carolina University in the season opener, logging 1.1 innings, where she converted one strikeout … emerged with three K’s and her first win in a start against Livingstone (Feb. 19-Game 1), where she logged seven innings, allowed four hits and three runs (one earned run) … converted one strikeout in her clash with St. Andrews (Feb. 22-Game 1) … posted her sixth K of the season at Guilford (Feb. 28-Game 2) … made her final pitching appearance of the season against Meredith (March 29-Game 1), where she notched one strikeout.

PREP: Graduated from Fredericksburg Christian School in 2023 … a three-sport athlete that competed in softball (2019-23), volleyball (2019-23) and basketball (2019) for the Eagles … named Second Team All-Conference in softball (2019) … also distinguished as a First Team All-Conference honoree in 2023 … received Second Team All-State accolades in softball in 2023 … key in helping the Eagles win the Delaney Athletic Conference championship on two occasions during the course of her career (2019, 2023) … led Fredericksburg Christian School to the Regional Championship in 2023 … instrumental part of the Eagles finishing runner-up in the Virginia High School League State Championship runner-up in 2023 … competed in the Club Softball circuit for five years (2019-23) … played three seasons for Team Virginia Mizuno under head coach Roberto Arroyo (2019-21) before competing for two seasons (2022-23) under head coach Matt Thrift for Team Virginia Mizuno.

PERSONAL: Cassandra Wray Miller … daughter of Cynthia and William Miller … born on February 15, 2015 … has two siblings, Chris and Collin Curtis … recipient of the Academic Achievement Award in Art 1 … named as the Effort Award winner in Anatomy and Physiology.
