FIRST-YEAR (2025): Wrapped up her first year at Salem by starting 24 of the 28 games she played … capped off the season with 12 hits, eight walks, four runs and four RBI … used her speed on the base pads to close with five steals … registered 44 put outs and 29 assists … made her collegiate debut against Columbia International (Feb. 14), starting both games of the series … collected her first hit, a single, in the second game of the series with Columbia International (Feb. 14) … followed that with a base knock against St. Andrews (Feb. 27), stealing two bases along the way … opened March play with a single and a stolen base in the second game against Grace (March 2) … responsible for five putouts against the Lancers … enjoyed the first two-hit game of her career, closing 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in the opening game of the series with Covenant (March 8) as Salem earned the 4-3 victory … capped off a clash with Carolina University (March 18) by finishing 1-for-1 with an RBI … came through with a base hit and a stolen base in a 12-0 route of Johnson & Wales (March 22) … delivered a hit against No. 24 Pfeiffer (March 28) while equaling her single-game season-high in put outs (five) in the field … enjoyed her second two-hit outing of the season, which came at Meredith (April 6), driving in an RBI along the way … opened the William Peace (April 12) series with a 1-for-3 outing at the plate … was 1-for-1 at the plate as the starting shortstop for the Spirits in the opening game of the series with Greensboro (April 19).

PREP: Graduated from North Brunswick High School in 2024 … played four years of softball for the Scorpions under the direction of head coach Cory Harrison … earned Rookie of the Year honors (2023) and Best Fielding (2024) accolades from the team during the course of her career. 

PERSONAL: Jelene Avila … daughter of Eve and Luis Avila … born on October 31, 2005 … active in Junior ROTC program at North Brunswick High School … earned a spot on A/B Honor Roll.
