JUNIOR (2020): Overcame a preseason injury to play in one game for Salem, which came in the second game of a doubleheader against FDU-Florham (March 11) … made one plate appearance, however did not record a hit.
SOPHOMORE (2019): A solid performer for the Spirits, finishing with five hits and a .278 batting average (5-for-18), while contributing two RBI … posted a .316 slugging percentage and a .278 on-base percentage in 11 contests … posted her first hit of the season after finishing 1-for-1 from the plate against Kentucky Christian (March 19) … followed up with a 2-for-3 outing, which included a pair of RBI and two runs, against Maine-Presque Isle (March 19) … had her fourth hit of the slate against Frostburg (March 20) after finishing 1-for-3 from the plate with a run scored … picked up her final hit of the season at Mary Baldwin (April 6).
FRESHMAN (2018): Did not play any games over the course of her freshman season before transferring to Salem.
PREP: Graduated from Piedmont High School in 2017 … a four-year letterwinner in softball under head coach Jason Phelix … named Most Improved Player at the conclusion of the 2016 season … integral part of the team that reached the softball State Championship for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in 2017.
PERSONAL: Leigha Helms … daughter of Leslie and Andy Helms … born on May 20, 1999 … has three siblings, Kendall, Avery and Alli … was on honor roll all four years of high school … member of National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society … graduated Magna Cum Laude.
