JUNIOR (2025): Played in 35 games over the course of the season, earning 33 starts along the way … ranked in the Top-5 of seven offensive categories, among those with 10 starts, including hits (38-1st), runs scored (23-1st), at bats (98-1st), total bases (40-1st), stolen bases (35-1st), on-base percentage (.444-2nd), slugging percentage (.408-4th) … ranked fifth on the team in putouts (51) … reset her own single-season program mark in stolen bases (35), which came on 40 attempts … the 35 stolen bases was tops in the USA South Conference … began the season with a 2-for-3 outing, which included three stolen bases and a run scored, against Columbia International (Feb. 14) … swiped four bases, while finishing 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored, against St. Andrews (Game 1-Feb. 27) … stole two bases in game two of the series with the Knights, while going 1-for-4 with a run scored … had a five-game hitting streak between February 28th and March 2nd, which began with a 2-for-3 outing against Agnes Scott (Feb. 28) … swiped three bases in the opening game of the series with Guilford (March 1), scoring two runs along the way … was 2-for-3 from the plate in a clash with Grace (March 2) … made two steals at Averett (Game 2-March 6) … had an eight-game streak with at least one stolen base from March 9 (Game 1-Oberlin) through March 26 (Game 2-Brevard), swiping two in the opening game of the series against Carolina University (March 18) and game two of the clash with Johnson & Wales (March 22) in that stretch … enjoyed a nine-game hitting streak for the Spirits, second-longest of the season behind Kayla Dick’s 10-game streak, from March 8th through March 26th … delivered two hits in five games during the nine-game hitting streak, which came against Oberlin (2x, March 9), Carolina University (Game 1-March 18), Brevard (2x, March 26) … had the first triple of her career, while finishing 1-for-4 with two RBI at William Peace (April 12) … closed with three hits, including a 2-for-4 outing with two stolen bases in game two, and an RBI against Greensboro (April 19) … ended the season on a three-game hitting streak, including a 3-for-3 outing in game one of series with Methodist (April 26) … swiped two bases in both games of the doubleheader with Methodist (April 26), giving her 10 games with multiple stolen bases on the season.Â
SOPHOMORE (2024): Led all Salem sluggers in hits (39), runs scored (25) and topped the lineup in batting average (.358) among those with at least 25 at bats … established the program mark for most single-season stolen bases (28), topping the previous mark set by Karson Chapman (22), which took place in 2013 … also set the benchmark in program history for career steals (40), after swiping two bases in the doubleheader finale against Methodist (April 27) … drew a team-best 13 walks on the season … finished with a .435 on-base percentage and a .367 slugging percentage … began her season with a hit and two stolen bases in the opener against Carolina University (Feb. 17), scoring two runs along the way … followed that with a 4-for-5 outing, which resulted in two RBI, two runs and two stolen bases against the Bruins (Feb. 17) in game two of the series … helped the Spirits to a 14-9 win at St. Andrews (Feb. 22-Game 2) with two hits, two runs and two stolen bases … responsible for three hits in three at bats versus Averett (March 3-Game 1) … began a four-game swing through Georgia with a 4-for-4 performance, resulting in three runs and a stolen base, at Covenant (March 12-Game 1) … swiped two bases while notching two hits and two runs in a setback to Meredith (March 29-Game 2) … closed out the final series of March against N.C. Wesleyan (March 30-Game 1) with two stolen bases and a run scored … the two steals established the Salem single-season record for steals … converted two hits and scored three runs in a 9-8 victory over Brevard (April 16-Game 2) … tied Jennifer Vitarelli for the all-time stolen base record (38) with a steal against Mary Baldwin (April 24-Game 2) … established Salem’s all-time stolen base mark with a pair of steals at Methodist (April 27-Game 2), giving her 40 career steals and 28 steals on the season.
FIRST YEAR (2023): One of four first-year players on the Salem roster … was a speedy outfielder who wrapped up the season tied for the second-most outs (65) along with Savanah Atkins … played and started in 31 games for the Spirits … wrapped up the season by ranking in the Top-5 in five statistical categories, including stolen bases (12-1st), steal attempts (13-1st), walks (10-2nd), runs scored (12-3rd) and on-base percentage (.333-3rd) … made her collegiate debut at Averett (Feb. 18) … drew a walk and swiped her first stolen base of the season against Ferrum (March 19) … recorded one hit against Brevard (March 26), scoring two runs along the way … scored one run in a clash with Mary Baldwin (April 5), swiping two bases in the series with the Fighting Squirrels … delivered two hits, including her first career double, while scoring two runs at Southern Virginia (April 11) … had a hit at No. 23 Pfeiffer (April 6) … came through with a hit and a run scored, while stealing three bases, including home, against Greensboro (April 15) … was 1-for-1 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and three walks in a win over Shaw (April 18) … capped off a two-game series with Sweet Briar (April 23) with two hits, one run scored and a stolen base in each game … had her second multi-hit game (2-for-3) while accounting for two runs and a stolen base in the first game of the series with Methodist (April 29) … ended the season with a hit, run scored and a stolen base versus Methodist (April 29).
PREP: Graduated from Oak Grove High School in 2022 … a four-sport athlete that competed in volleyball (2019), tennis (2020), softball (2019-22) as well as track and field (2022) … played softball under the direction of Danielle Diluzio … was coached by Lynne Raush (volleyball) and Zackary Bowers (tennis) as well … earned 3A All-Conference honors in track and field following the 2022 campaign … was a regional qualifier (2022) in track and field during her prep career.
PERSONAL: Maleah Tate … daughter of Natasha Tate and Mike Vawter … born on January 8, 2004 ... has six siblings, Mariah, Michael, Mitchell, Marshall, Mareah, Malaysiah … was a honor roll student at Oak Grove High School.
