MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Salem volleyball team claimed its 200th program victory in a 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 decision over Bob Jones on the Pfeiffer campus in Misenheimer, N.C. This comes seven years (2580 days) after the Spirits earned their 100th program win in a 3-0 decision (25-8,25-5,25-23) on September 26, 2017 under then head coach Kevin Troup. Coincidentally, it marks the third consecutive 20-win season for Salem, which moves to 20-4 with the combination of the win over the Bruins and a 3-0 triumph over Pfeiffer earlier in the day.

SALEM 3, PFEIFFER 0

The Spirits capped off their 11th sweep of the campaign (25-21, 25-19, 28-26) behind a series of strong offensive performances from Anna Rymer (12 kills), Aspen Bradley (10) and Abrielle Eckenroth (nine), resulting in a .292 attack percentage and 49 total kills. First year setter Leah Rymer delivered 40 assists, which McKenzie Tullock added four of her own.

Tullock was also one of the top back row defenders with 15 digs, while Makailey Albright closed with 13. Teammate Olivia Torres added 10 digs and was responsible for three service aces, a team-high.

FIRST SET: Salem opened the match strong, coming through with 16 kills as it finished with a .289 attack percentage. The Spirits quickly reached double-digit points, establishing a 10-4 lead, after a slam from Ellie Scherer. Scherer added a kill and Albright delivered a service ace as the Spirits moved their lead to 16-6 following back-to-back slams by Bradley and Maia Johnson. A brief rally by the Falcons trimmed the Salem lead to five, 16-11, before the two teams reached a 19-all deadlock. Salem broke the tie with two kills by Anna Rymer and Bradley, moving the margin to 24-20. Anna Rymer added the decisive kill for the Spirits, who came away with the four-point win.

SECOND SET: The Spirits offense delivered another solid performance, closing with a .261 attack percentage, by virtue of 15 kills. Salem again grabbed the early lead, 9-4, following a series of slams by both Eckenroth and Scherer. The Falcons responded to the challenged with an 8-2 run of their own, assuming the 12-11 advantage, but Salem regained the advantage on a Bradley slam. With the two teams square at 17, a service error by Pfeiffer put Torres in serve. Torres emerged with two aces and Johnson drove home two kills to help the Spirits clinch the six-point win.

THIRD SET: Salem closed out its sweep with 18 kills in the third frame, best of any set, and posted a .326 attack percentage which came by virtue of just three miscues. The Spirits were unable to distance themselves from Pfeiffer in the third, reaching a nine-all deadlock early. Pfeiffer forged in front by three, 14-11, but two Eckenroth kills helped Salem move in front 15-14. Six ties later, tied at 23, Pfeiffer grabbed a one-point lead on an Abby Lewis kill. Salem evened the score on a Bradley kill as the two teams reached a 26-26 tie. Johnson slammed home a kill past the Pfeiffer defense before a ball handling by the Falcons resulted in the decisive point and Spirits triumph.

SALEM 3, BOB JONES 0

Junior outside hitter Aspen Bradley drove home a match-high 16 kills, finishing with a .483 attack percentage in the process, while Maia Johnson added 10 kills of her own to help Salem emerge with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 win over Bob Jones in non-conference action. The Spirits finished with 49 kills and a .290 attack percentage as a unit, due in large part to 37 assists from Leah Rymer

The Salem defense played an integral part in the team's winning streak moving to nine, limiting Bob Jones to just 30 kills and into committing 19 miscues. McKenzie Tullock anchored the back row with 16 digs, while the trio of Leah Rymer (14), Anna Rymer (13) and Olivia Torres (11) also reached double figure digs. Johnson and Leah Rymer had three assisted blocks on the front row, while Anna Rymer added two of her own.

FIRST SET: The Salem offense carried over its rhythm from the first match, coming through with 16 kills and a .343 attack percentage in the opening set. Kills from Bradley and Anna Rymer played an instrumental role in Salem establishing a 7-1 lead. Bradley and Bella Mann added slams to put the Spirits into double figures, 10-3, but the Bruins rallied to pull within four on a service ace by Faith Blalock. The combination of Johnson and Bradley stretch the Salem lead to 19-13, before Mann singlehandedly provided the 20th Salem point. Johnson and Mann added two kills apiece down the stretch to lead Salem to the six-point triumph.

SECOND SET: The Spirits equaled their first set kill output, 16, as it moved in front 2-0 in the match. The Bruins matched Salem's energy in the frame, but the Spirits managed to grab a 10-6 lead on a strike from Bradley. Bob Jones fought back to trim the deficit to one, 13-12, before a Leah Rymer kill coupled with two Bruin miscues resulted in a 16-12 advantage. Bob Jones retaliated to force the first of three ties at 19, where with Jolina Bun in serve the Spirits capitalized on two miscues for a 23-21 lead. Mann drove home the final two kills to provide the two-set advantage.

THIRD SET: With the opportunity to close out its 12th sweep of the campaign, Salem drove home 17 kills and posted a .400 attack percentage in the final set. Salem seized Anna Rymer's service game and opened an 8-2 lead with two kills from Ella Brameus and one each from Eckenroth and Bradley. Bradley continued the hot hand with a kill and service ace of her own, while Johnson added two, stretching the Spirits' lead to 13-5. Anna Rymer got into the act with a pair of kills of her own, making for a 20-9 contest, and after a brief rally by the Bruins, the duo of Bradley and Anna Rymer slammed the door with two kills apiece and completed the 12-point win.
