WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Aspen Bradley drove home a match-high 16 kills while Anna Rymer came through with a double-double (10 kills, 10 digs) to help the Salem volleyball team avenge a 2023 season-ending loss to Meredith by notching the first-ever sweep (25-16, 25-19, 25-20) of the Avenging Angels in program history at Varsity Gym on Wednesday evening. The triumph also moves Salem's home winning streak to 15 straight and extends its program-record winning streak to 10 consecutive matches.

The Spirits, who saw their season end with a setback last season in Raleigh, N.C., as Meredith marched to the USA South Conference championship, came through with 50 kills and a .341 attack percentage in the victory. That ties for the fourth-most kills in a three-set match in program history, alongside a 2022 performance versus N.C. Wesleyan.

Bradley drove home 16 of those 50 kills, while committing just one error in 33 attempts, as she posted a .455 attack percentage. Rymer also reached double-digit kills (10), while closing with a .357 attack percentage in 28 attempts. Both Abrielle Eckenroth and Maia Johnson came through with seven kills for Salem.

Olivia Torres led the Spirits in digs with 16 on the match, while McKenzie Tullock contributed 14. Johnson anchored the front row with two solo blocks, while Rymer had a pair of assisted blocks.

FIRST SET: The Salem offensive attack came out firing and behind three kills from Bradley and two off the hand of Eckenroth the margin was quickly 10-3. Meredith countered with a 6-2 run, incluging service aces from Hannah Jo Jablonski and Megan Murray, slicing the margin to three, 12-9. Four kills from Anna Rymer allowed the Spirits to distance themselves 18-13, but it was slams by Bradley and Ellie Scherer that pushed Salem to 21 points. Johnson and Eckenroth added kills down the stretch to help secure the opening set by a nine-point margin.

SECOND SET: The front row trio of Bradley, Eckenroth and Scherer allowed Salem to grab an 8-4 lead to open the second set. Tullock stepped into serve and capitalized on two Bradley kills and an Anna Rymer slam, stretching the margin to 13-5. After splitting the next eight points, Salem grabbed a 17-9 lead behind a Scherer slam. Anna Rymer drove a pass from Torres past the Meredith defense, making for a 20-15 lead, while Bradley and Scherer contributed three kills down the stretch to complete the six-point victory.

THIRD SET: Meredith showcased its championship pedigree in the third set, battling through three ties to assume an 8-6 lead behind kills from Delaney Lowery and Mac Stafford. After an Avenging Angels miscue provided the seventh Salem point, Torres, Johnson and Anna Rymer played a key role in providing Salem with a 12-8 lead. Three kills from Bradley, along with timely slams from Johnson and Scherer resulted in a 19-15 lead for Salem. Leah Rymer, who closed with 37 assists on the match, delivered two of her four kills in back-to-back points as the Spirits forged ahead 21-15. Bradley and Anna Rymer came through with kills down the stretch to help clinch the sweep.
