Match 1: Salem 3, Pfeiffer 0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-19)
The Spirits used their defensive prowess, which included 15 digs from
Leah Rymer, and an all-around offensive attack, which resulted in 44 kills and a .223 attack percentage, to capture the first match of the day against Pfeiffer.
Johnson led all Salem hitters with 11 kills, finishing with a .529 attack percentage in 17 total attacks, while Scherer closed with eight kills and a .316 attack percentage.
Leah Rymer was responsible for 20 assists for Salem, while
Grace Royer added 12 of her own.
FIRST SET: The Spirits' offensive attack was clicking on all cylinders to open the contest, streaking out to a 13-3 lead behind a series of kills from Bella Mann and Johnson. After a timeout, the Falcons responded by equaling the next six Salem points, making for a 19-9 contest. Three service aces, along with a Kylee Mayberry kill, helped the Falcons narrow the margin to 23-18, by virtue of a Haedyn McGrath slam. McGrath added another kill, as did teammates Madison Tate and Jada Thomas, resulting in a 24-23 game. However, Mann slammed the door with an emphatic kill to give Salem the opening set.
SECOND SET: The back-and-forth battle ensued in the second set with six ties in the first 20 points, resulting in a 10-all deadlock. Salem coupled a miscue by the Falcons with a kill by Bradley and a service ace by
Anna Rymer to move in front 14-11. Royer, Johnson and Scherer drove home kills for Salem, stretching the margin to 19-13. Pfeiffer managed to claw its way back to five, 22-17, before two service aces by Gabi Gama helped narrow the gap to 23-22. Salem capitalized on kills from Johnson and
Abrielle Eckenroth to earn the three-point victory.
THIRD SET: Looking to close out its fourth sweep of the season, Salem fought through four ties in the opening 16 points to grab a 10-8 lead following a series of Scherer slams. Scherer used two more kills to stretch the margin to 15-9, forcing a Pfeiffer timeout, who rejuvenated their defense with a pair of blocks. Bradley and Mann came through with a series of kills, stretching the Salem lead to 20-13, but the Falcons refused to surrender. It was first year's Scherer and
Leah Rymer that proved to be the difference down the stretch in the six-point triumph.

SECOND SET: Pfeiffer regrouped during the intermission and came out strong in the opening stages, forcing a nine-all deadlock following a kill from Tate.
