SALEM, Va. – The Salem volleyball team completed a perfect 4-0 run through the Roanoke College Tournament on Saturday with a pair of wins over N.C. Wesleyan (25-14, 25-13, 25-14) and Hollins (25-12, 25-22, 25-27, 25-17). One of the outstanding performers for the Spirits was senior
Anna Rymer, who closed out the four-match run with 45 kills and a .494 attack percentage during the stretch.

The Salem volleyball team moved its winning streak to four straight with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-14 triumph over N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday morning.
Salem capitalized on 45 kills and a .298 attack percentage, which included 13 kills (.455 attack pct.) from
Maia Johnson and 12 kills from
Anna Rymer. Rymer was highly efficient in her outing, committing just one miscue in 21 total attacks, to finish with a .524 attack percentage
Ashlyn Wood and
Leah Rymer, who tallied 18 and 17 assists, respectively, led the way for the offensive attack. Meanwhile,
McKenzie Tullock led the way for the defense with 13 digs and junior classmate
Ella Brameus added 10 digs to go along with six kills and two service aces.
FIRST SET: The Spirits put together a dominating performance in the opening frame, finishing with 15 kills and a .345 attack percentage after jumping out to an 8-4 advantage following a kill from Johnson. Brameus added one of her own to put Salem into double figures before trio of strikes by the Spirits resulted in a 14-8 lead.
Isabella Mann and
Anna Rymer came through with back-to-back kills to help Salem assume a 20-12 lead, while Johnson added two kills down the stretch to complete the victory.
SECOND SET: The Battling Bishops weathered the storm by the Spirits in the second, falling behind 8-7, before a stretch of kills by Johnson and Brameus provided Salem with an 11-7 advantage. With Salem leading 14-10,
Anna Rymer and
Aspen Bradley combined for one kill each and an assisted block, resulting in an 18-10 margin.
Anna Rymer added two service aces and two kills down the stretch to guide Salem to the win.
THIRD SET: Two service aces by Brameus and three kills off the hand of Johnson helped the Spirits with a 10-5 lead in the opening stages of the third set. After watching N.C. Wesleyan score nine of the next 15 points, Salem used an attack error to spark a 9-0 run to close out the sweep. Among the final nine points, two came from kills by Brameus and three came by virtue of Battling Bishop errors.

Anna Rymer delivered a 15-kill, .577 attack percentage performance for the Spirits, leading the way for a unit that closed with 50 kills and a combined .280 attack percentage. Rymer didn't commit one attack error in the four-set win over Hollins and was joined in double-digit kills by teammate
Aspen Bradley, who closed with 10.
FIRST SET: The Spirits streaked out to a 10-5 lead following a decisive slam from
Maia Johnson, but a Hollins rally trimmed that margin to just two. With
McKenzie Tullock in serve, Salem tallied the next six straight points, taking advantage of a slam from
Makailey Albright and a Tullock ace in that span. The Spirits surrendered just four points down the stretch, while receiving three kills from Bradley, to clinch the 25-12 win.
SECOND SET: After notching seven of the first 10 points of the set, Salem allowed three unanswered and clung to a 7-6 lead. However,
Anna Rymer answered with a kill as the Spirits forged a 10-7 lead. Hollins rallied to force the first of three ties at 11-all, before a trio of kills by
Abrielle Eckenroth stretched the margin to 16-13. With Albright in serve and a slam from
Anna Rymer, Salem assumed the 21-16 lead. Hollins would make one final push, trimming the deficit to 23-21, before a kill from the tandem of Bradley and
Isabella Mann provided Salem with the two-set lead.
THIRD SET: Hollins turned the momentum in its favor in the third frame, closing with 13 kills and a .290 attack percentage, taking a game from the Spirits. The green and gold assumed a 9-5 lead early on, but a series of points from Leah and
Anna Rymer evened the contest at 12. The two teams traded points back-and-forth, enduring 13 ties, before a climatic 25-all deadlock. It was there that Hollins notched a kill and a service ace to earn the 27-25 win.
FOURTH SET: Looking to return to Winston-Salem with a five-match winning streak, Salem took advantage of a .310 attack percentage and 12 kills in the final frame to clinch the victory. Despite falling behind 8-6 early on, Salem came through with six unanswered to grab a four-point lead behind Tullock's service game and kills from
Ashlyn Wood,
Olivia Torres and
Ella Brameus.
Leah Rymer added two service aces of her own and in the process the Spirits built a 17-9 advantage.
Anna Rymer added two kills and Johnson came through with one down the stretch to help Salem secure the fourth game win.
