Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Secures Two More Straight-Set Wins

Volleyball remains undefeated at home in the 2025 season after taking down both Mary Baldwin and Meredith in straight sets.

After losing to Salem in straight sets earlier this season, MBU came into today's matchup ready to battle. Set one started out with some impressively long points, keeping the Squirrels in fighting distance after Salem secured the first four. Three kills from Aspen Bradley started to give the Spirits some separation, followed by another three from Sadie Rich, giving Salem a 14-6 lead. A six-point run served by Jolina Bun followed by a few errors from MBU, a kill from Bella Mann and an ace from Madison Bozarth sealed the deal for the Spirits, winning set one 25-10.

Set two was the most competitive of the matchup, MBU staying within a few until a kill from Ella Brameus set off a five-point fun for Salem. A few points later, the Squirrels put up a four-point run of their own, to bring them back within a few. The Spirits, however, had an answer, with Grace Royer serving three straight aces. The last points of the set came with multiple errors from both sides, but Salem held strong, taking set two off of a kill from Bradley.

Set three was the Spirit's most dominant set of the entire season, only letting up three points.

Salem won the first seven points, with aces from Jolina Bun and kills from Bradley. Momentum was quickly back with the Spirits, only giving up one point before going on a whopping 12 point run. Kills from Ellie Scherer, Aspen Bradley and Emma Marion, an ace from Bradley, and a few errors from the Squirrels took home the win. This set held six of the Spirits 12 service aces and ended in their largest deficit of the season.

Going into game two, Salem wanted to keep this momentum going and get redemption against Meredith, who they lost two earlier this season. Set one was one of their most competitive of the day, with the Angels staying right at the Spirits heels. The first 21 points brought kills from six different Spirits, giving them a 12-9 lead. This set brought Meredith's highest kill total of the contest, keeping it close until a service ace from Olivia Torres pushed the momentum fully in the Spirit's direction. After going up 17-14, Salem only dropped three more points on their way to a 25-17 first set win.

The Angels came into set two ready to compete, taking an early lead of 6-3. A kill from Bella Mann turned the tides and helped propel the Spirits to win 10 of the next 11 points. This dominant streak brought eight kills and a service ace for Salem, who held the lead for the remainder of the set. The Angels kept their intensity up, bringing the score to 18-16, but a long stretch of errors ultimately gave the Spirits a 25-18 set two score.

Salem kept their foot on the gas in set three, winning in their largest deficit of the contest at 25-13. After Meredith brought it to 11-9, the Spirits held control for the remainder of the set. Bun served a six point run, followed not long after by a five point run served by Ariana Noplos. After going up 23-13, Bradley and Mann found the floor to bring home another straight set win for Salem.

The Spirits will next be in action on Wednesday, where they travel to take on Southern Virginia.
