Salem Soccer took on a tough opponent tonight in Southern Virginia, ultimately falling 10-0. The Spirits opened their Conference season playing the Knights who were ranked #2 in the USA South Preseason poll.
Southern Virginia came out swinging, scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes of the contest. The Spirits held strong for the next 20 minutes, but the Knights were able to tack on two more before the end of the half. In the second half, SVU was able to match their first half goals number, bringing their total up to 10 for the matchup.
Darilyn Nieto led the team in shots with five and Michaela Iapaluccio tacked on 12 saves.
The Spirits will next be in action on Saturday at 2pm where they take on Methodist at home.
