Salem Athletics Excels in the Classroom with 3.37 Department GPA

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Salem College Athletics continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence both in competition and in the classroom, finishing the 2025-26 academic year with an impressive overall department GPA of 3.37.

The strong academic performance reflects the dedication of Salem's student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff in fostering a culture where academic success remains a top priority. During the spring semester, every Salem athletic program posted a team GPA above a 3.0, highlighting the department's commitment to academic achievement across all sports.

Leading the way during the spring semester was the Tennis program with a department-best 3.59 GPA. The top five team GPAs included:

  1. Tennis – 3.59
  2. Volleyball – 3.41
  3. Track & Field – 3.39
  4. Beach Volleyball – 3.37
  5. Soccer – 3.27

"Our student-athletes continue to represent Salem College with excellence in the classroom, and I am incredibly proud of their commitment to academic success," said Director of Athletics Michael Williams. "While we strive for competitive success in every sport, our mission is to develop well-rounded student-athletes who are prepared to excel academically, athletically, and personally."

At Salem College, academics remain at the heart of the student-athlete experience. The department emphasizes time management, accountability, leadership, and academic support to ensure student-athletes are equipped to succeed long after their playing careers end.

The 2025-26 academic year marks another successful chapter for Salem Athletics as the department continues to pursue its vision of excellence in both academics and athletics. By maintaining high standards in the classroom while competing at a high level, Salem student-athletes embody the institution's commitment to developing champions on the field, court, track, and in the classroom.
