WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Salem College Athletics and Head Women's Basketball Coach Michael Williams are excited to announce the hiring of Jai'Lyn Lover as the program's Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.
Lover joins the Salem basketball program with an impressive background in coaching, player development, mentorship, recruiting, and program administration. Her passion for developing student-athletes and building strong team cultures will play a key role as Salem Women's Basketball continues its pursuit of excellence both on and off the court.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jai'Lyn to the Salem Basketball family," said Head Coach Michael Williams. "She brings tremendous energy, a strong basketball mind, and a genuine passion for helping young women grow as students, athletes, and leaders. Her experience across multiple levels of the game and her commitment to mentorship make her an outstanding addition to our staff."
A former collegiate student-athlete, Lover's basketball journey began at an early age. She competed at the varsity level from seventh through twelfth grade before continuing her playing career at Huntingdon College. During her four years with the program, she developed a deep understanding of teamwork, leadership, discipline, and the dedication required to succeed at the collegiate level.
Lover arrives at Salem following a successful coaching tenure at Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, where she served as the First Assistant Coach for the varsity boys basketball program. In that role, she assisted with all aspects of the program, including practice planning, scouting, game preparation, player development, and daily operations. She also helped coordinate team travel, fundraising initiatives, community outreach activities, and student-athlete mentorship programs.
Her coaching experience extends far beyond the high school level. Throughout her career, Lover has worked with youth basketball organizations, developmental programs, semi-professional teams, and minor league basketball programs throughout North Carolina and Alabama. Across every stop, she has established a reputation for building meaningful relationships, developing talent, and empowering athletes to reach their fullest potential.
Known for her energy, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with student-athletes, Lover is committed to creating an environment where players are challenged to excel while being supported throughout their personal and academic journeys. Her coaching philosophy aligns closely with Salem College's mission of preparing women to lead lives of purpose, impact, and achievement.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Lover is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her Master of Education in Higher Education from the University of West Alabama and her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Huntingdon College.
As Assistant Coach, Lover will play an integral role in recruiting, player development, academic support, scouting, game preparation, and cultivating the championship culture that continues to define the Salem Women's Basketball program.
Please join Salem College Athletics in welcoming Jai'Lyn Lover to the family.
