Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team will kick off its 2010-2011 season tonight as they travel to face Methodist University in a non-conference game at 7:00. The team returns several familiar faces from the 2009-2010 squad led by Kelsey Rector (State Road, NC). Coach Jim Jackson will hope to improve on the quarterfinal exit and sixth place finish the team had last year in the Great South Athletic Conference.
Rector led the team last year scoring 13.3 points per game. She also averaged 3.3 rebounds and was second on the team with 64 assists. The team also returns Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) and Racheal Salmons (Yadkinville, NC). Denerson averaged 8.2 points per game and Salmons averaged 7.7 points per game. Jojo Hall (Concord, NC) returns to the team after taking last year off.
Salem will begin GSAC play on September 21st, when they host Spelman College at 3:00.
