Basketball moves to 6-3 with win against Averett

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team won their 2nd straight game as they pulled out a close contest in a 66-62 win against Averett.  Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) hit 2 clutch free-throws with 6 seconds left to preserve the win. Salem improves to 6-3 overall and Averett falls to 1-5. 

The Cougars jumped out to a quick 11-5 lead, but Salem responded with a 14-4 run to take a 19-15 lead with 7:48 left in the 1st half. The Spirits would go into the break with a 35-28 lead.

Averett closed the gap quickly in the 2nd half and the game was tie at 45 with 9:28 remaining.  Salem jumped back out to a 57-50 lead with 4:43 left, and then Averett went on a 10-2 run to take the lead with 2:21 left. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) hit a clutch 3-pointer and 2 foul-shots, before Patterson closed the deal.

Taylor finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) added 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals. Brandi Wilkey (Atlanta, GA) had 11 points and 3 assists in the win.

The Spirits will take a break through the holidays before they travel to play Wingate on January 2nd.
