Basketball loses back and forth battle with William Peace

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team lost at home for the 1st time this season in a back and forth game with William Peace. The Pacers won 70-61 in the intense game. Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) continued her hot play with a game-high 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 assists, and an impressive 5 blocks. Taylor led the Spirits in all 5 statistics tonight. The Spirits fall to 4-3 with the loss, and William Peace improves to 3-5.

William Peace started out hot and led 27-17, before Salem went on a 14-5 run to pull within 1 point at 32-31.  WPU finished the 1st half by scoring the last 6 points to lead 38-31 at the break. 

The beginning of the 2nd half was a different story as Salem started the half on a 22-8 run to take a 53-46 advantage with 7:13 remaining in the game. The Pacers went on a 16-0 run until Tiffany Wildgoose (Nassau, Bahamas) hit a jumper with 2:36 left to get the Spirits back within 7 points. The Pacers were able to hang on to their lead through the rest of the game.

The Spirits had a 16-14 steal advantage and a 5-2 block advantage.  The Pacers led on the boards 43-34. Jasmine Shabazz (Buffalo, NY) had 11 points for Salem, and Wildgoose added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Krystal Williams led WPU with 15 points.

The Spirits return to the road on Monday night when they travel to Raleigh to take on Meredith at 7:00. The Spirits will get another shot at WPU on January 14th in Raleigh.
