Basketball moves to GSAC Championship game with comeback win

Montgomery, AL-The Salem College basketball team stormed back from a 14-point deficit in the 2nd half to beat

Agnes Scott, 53-51, and advance to tomorrow's Great South Championship Finals. The Spirits were led by Bria Patterson (Winterhaven, FL) and her huge 10 points in the 2nd half. The team also reached a school record 17 wins for the basketball program.

The Spirits (17-10) will take on the host and #1 seeded Hawks of Huntingdon in tomorrow's championship at 1:00 (CT). Huntingdon (16-9) cruised to a 97-65 win against Spelman in the other semifinal game. The Spirits split with the Hawks during the regular season, with each team winning on their home court.

It took the offense a while to get going, and Agnes Scott had a 27-17 lead at halftime. The Scotties would stretch that lead to 14 with 17:20 remaining. The Spirits destroyed the Scotties over the next 13 minutes as they went on an impressive 33-6 run. They held on over the last 4 minutes to secure the win.

Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) continued her hot play with 17 points, 5 blocks, and 4 steals. Shamaz Denerson (Atlanta, GA) had a big game with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
