Rocky Mount, NC-The Salem College soccer team only needed five minutes to score their first goal of the season in a 3-0 victory at North Carolina Wesleyan. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) finished a corner by Nataly Mojica (Houston, TX) in the sixth minute and the Spirits never looked back. Salem improves to 1-0 and NC Wesleyan falls to 0-1.

Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) scored an unassisted goal twenty minutes later. MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) finished the scoring late in the second half for Salem. Paige Ketchum (Jacksonville, NC) made three saves in goal and earned the shutout. Salem out-shot the Bishops 24-4 and they had a 7-1 corner kick edge.

"We have to get a little sharper everywhere on the field," said Head Coach Jay Callahan. "It was a good opener, but we have to get better before we take on Guilford and Meredith next weekend."

The Spirits will play Guilford at Meredith on September 7th at 3:30.
