Salem Soccer traveled to Rocky Mount, NC to take on NC Wesleyan where they fell 5-0.
The Bishops got off to a hot start offensively, rattling off two shots and securing a corner kick in the first 10 minutes. Their hard work paid off when they were able to sneak one by in the 11th minute. Salem subbed in Olivia Slayton not long after who created some offensive momentum and got a shot off of her own. NCW had a penalty call go in their favor to secure a penalty kick in the 29th minute, scoring off the kick. The Spirits held off a few more Bishop attacks before the end of the half, with Michaela Iapaluccio tacking on a few saves. NCW was able to secure one more goal in the 38th minute going into halftime up 3-0.
Half two started out with a good push from Salem, being rewarded with three corner kick opportunities and a shot from Darilyn Nieto. NCW had a quick answer, putting up a solid push of their own. The Spirits defended well, keeping the Bishops from getting any grade-A chances and were able to create two shot opportunities of their own for Sophia Zary. Ultimately, NCW was able to find the back of the net again in the 84th minute, followed soon after by their 5th and final goal of the contest.
The Spirits will next be in action on Wednesday October 15th at 3pm where they host Brevard.
