WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem softball team earned a split with Triad foe Guilford on Saturday afternoon at Blixt Field, earning a 10-4 win in game one before the Quakers retaliated and took game two of the series by a 13-8 margin.

Olivia Porter,
Reese Upton and
Kayla Dick made an impression on the offense by combining for 11 hits between the two contests. Porter finished with four of those hits, accounting for two doubles and a pair of RBI, while Dick came through with a double and a triple for the Spirits.
Upton closed out the first game of the series with a double before bashing her first collegiate home run in game two.
Sophomore
Isabella Morales earned her first win of the season in the circle, limiting the Quakers to four runs (three earned) off nine hits in a complete game performance. Morales faced 35 Guilford sluggers, issuing one walk while striking out three.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-Salem halted an eight-game losing streak to the Quakers with the game one win.
-Salem put seven runs across the plate in the home half of the second inning, capitalizing on five hits and one error by the Quakers.

NeVaeha George opened the second with a single up the middle and
Carmen Duffey put two runners on for
Olivia Porter, who reached on a fielder's choice that placed runners on the corners for
Kiersten Nelson. Nelson lifted a base hit to right field, scoring George to even the game at one.

Rheanne Tullock kept the Salem offense going with a single to right field, plating Porter for the 2-1 advantage. After
Cree Bass reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, George would put the go-ahead run (2-1) across the plate on a wild pitch.
Maleah Tate sprinted to first on a miscue at second, scoring Tullock as the lead grew to three.

Reese Upton drove a bases-clearing double into left field, sending home Bass and Tate to extend the Spirits' margin to 6-1.

Kayla Dick roped a single into right field to move Upton to third and George, in her second at-bat of the inning, scored Upton from third on a sacrifice fly in shallow left field, resulting in a 7-1 contest.
-George opened the fifth inning with a single past second, before Duffey blasted a two-run home run over the left field wall, resulting in a 9-2 Salem lead.

Maleah Tate manufactured the 10th Salem run of the game in the sixth, reaching base on a single to shallow left field before stealing two bases. Upton followed with a single of her own, making for a 10-4 Spirit lead.
GUILFORD HIGHLIGHTS
-Shiloh Gray drew a leadoff walk to open the second inning and moved into scoring position with a single to left by Keiya Bullock. Two batters later, Kaley Mitchell reached on a hit to short, scoring Gray from second, as the Quakers assumed the 1-0 lead.
-The Quakers notched their second run of the game in the fifth when a single to left field brought home pinch runner Nicole Gumula from second.
-Olivia Shelton sent a triple down the left field line to open the sixth and Corryn McCutchen reached on an error in the Salem infield to put two on base for the Quakers. Avery Lowe seized the opportunity with a grounder to short, scoring Shelton for the third run.
-Guilford added its second run of the sixth on a sacrifice fly to left field, which brought home McCutchen, resulting in a 9-4 contest.

Olivia Porter sent a double into left centerfield, scoring George and Dick in succession to extend the Salem lead to 3-1.

Mackenzie Kramer scored Nelson on a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Salem to regain the lead, 5-4.

-Porter added a single in the fifth, moving Duffey to third, who had reached base on an error in the outfield. Duffey scored from third on a throwing error by the catcher, resulting in a 10-7 game.

Reese Upton singlehandedly put Salem within four runs of the Quakers with a solo blast, the first of her collegiate career, over the left centerfield wall.
GUILFORD HIGHLIGHTS
-The Quakers put the first run on the scoreboard in the first inning when Corryn McCutchen doubled to left field and advanced to third on a Brooke Goyins fly out to left. Shiloh Gray reached base on an error in the infield, scoring McCutchen for the 1-0 advantage.
-Guilford charged back in front with a three-run third inning, capitalizing on two Salem errors along the way, to assume a 4-3 lead.
-McCutchen opened the inning with a walk, on Goyins' triple to left, slicing the lead to one. Shiloh Gray followed with a hit of her own, bringing home Goyins to even the score at three.
-Guilford grabbed the 4-3 lead on a throwing error, which allowed Gray to cross the plate.
-The back-and-forth battle continued into the fourth, where Guilford put five runs across the plate on five hits, putting the Quakers in front 9-6.
-Two runs scored for Guilford when Micah Wilson connected on a single to left in the fourth.
-Guilford moved into double figures in the top of the fifth when Micah Wilson singled to right, scoring McCutchen from third base.
-The Quakers moved their lead back to four, 11-7, scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth. Olivia Shelton laid down a bunt, scoring Alyssa Daniels from third, to stretch the lead to five.
-An RBI single to left by Chloee Stoner in the seventh brought home Gray as Guilford assumed a 13-8 lead.
