Salem Volleyball is off to a hot start in Roanoke College's Maroon Classic, going into day two with a 2-0 record. The Spirits secured wins against Randolph College and Carolina University, both ending in a 3-1 result.
Game one against Randolph started out strong for the Spirits, going on a 6-point run early on in the set. With only one error to their 13 kills, Salem dominated the first set 25-13. Randolph was able to bounce back in the second set, capitalizing on a few Spirit errors. While Salem was able to put up 12 kills and a late 4-point run, Randolph took the second set 19-25.The Spirits 6 point run in the middle of set three, along with their 11 kills and zero errors provided the perfect combination for their 25-19 win. Randolph was not going to go down easy, going on a 7-point racking up a 5 point deficit in set four. Salem had an answer, going on a few runs of their own and ending the game with an emphatic block from Ariana Noplos and Ella Brameus.
Game two against Carolina University started with Salem building on their success, gaining an early lead of 7-1. The Bruins, however, had an answer, coming up with a few well timed aces that swayed momentum in their direction, ultimately taking the set 18-25. The Spirits came into the final three sets ready, never losing more than 15 points on their way to the win. Sets two and three were both secured with a 25-12 score, both with 11 kills. Set two also brought one of Salem's most dominant stretches, going on a 12-point run. Set four came with their highest kill total of the day with 15, propelling them to 25-15.
After a dominant day, Salem Volleyball is looking to continue their streak tomorrow in their contests against Roanoke College at 12pm and Hollins University at 4pm.
