Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Leaves Maroon Classic Undefeated

Salem Volleyball had a dominant weekend at the Maroon Classic, closing out their last two games with straight set wins against Roanoke College and Hollins University.

Salem wasted no time in their first set dominance against Roanoke.Their set began with an 8-point run and closed with a 9-point run, two of their strongest stretches so far this season. The Spirits were able to capitalize on some errors, serve consistently, and attack efficiently on their way to a wide margin. Set two was a back and forth battle, staying within a few points of each other for the back end of the set. Salem ultimately won the set 25-23, with Sadie Rich, Ella Brameus, and Aspen Bradley slamming down a few well-timed kills. Set three started out with another momentum battle, until Madison Bozarth had a strong run at serve providing the perfect foundation for a 25-18 win.

The Spirits continued their dominance into game two, with only a single lead change throughout the entire contest. Hollins started out set one able to match Salem's scoring, but serving runs from Madison Bozarth and Aspen Bradley pulled the Spirit's ahead. Two kills from Freshman Taylor Cook finished off the set for Salem, securing the 25-15 score. Hollins was able to string together a few runs of their own in set two, staying on their heels for a majority of the set. The Spirits, staying cool, calm, and collected, were able to hold strong and win the set 25-22. A highlight of set two was Salem's service aces, racking up six of their ten in the set alone. Set three was the perfect exclamation point on the weekend, with the Spirits scoring points 13-25, with only one point lost.

Ella Brameus led the team in kills today with 20, with Aspen Bradley right behind racking up 19. Ella Brameus, Madison Bozarth, and Olivia Torres all put up four aces. Leah Rymer led in assists once again with 63. Madison Bozarth is continuing to dominate in the aces department, securing another 29.

Salem Volleyball will next be in action on September 13th, where they take on both Johnson C. Smith and Johnson & Wales at home.
