Salem Track & Field competed at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational, with multiple athletes competing in new events.
One of the most exciting moments of the weekend was Triana Smallwood breaking Salem's 400m record in her first meet competing in the event. The former record was 1:07.77 and Smallwood took home a 1:07.23.
Ashlynn Owens also made her 400m debut, clocking in at 1:09.03. Owens also ran both the 100m and 200m, finishing at 14.12 and 28.58 respectively, securing a PB in the 200m.
Allyson Freeman and Sophie Miller both ran their first collegiate 1500m, crossing the finish line with only .14 seconds between them. Freeman ran a 5:48.64 and Miller ran a 5:48.78.
Salem also had four athletes compete in discus. Sonia Cherry continued to lead the way for the Spirits, throwing a 22.00. Quay Atkinson threw a personal best of 19.50. Skylyr Yearby was right behind with a 19.25. Finally, Payton Dolin threw a 16.50.
The Spirits will next be in action on Friday April 24th where they compete in the USA South Conference Meet.
