Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team picked up a win against a very talented Covenant College team today 1-0, in the first-ever match played at the new Spirit Field. Alexi Saganich (McLeansville, NC) scored in the 64th minute off of a pass by Amanda Orsino (Sauquoit, NY) for the only goal of the match. Salem improves to 3-1 on the season, and Covenant falls to 4-1.

Salem outshot Covenant 10-4. Jazmine Bridgeman (Mill Springs, NC) had three important saves for the Spirits. Salem's defense limited Covenant's opportunities with a very solid game.

Covenant came into the match today as the sixth-ranked school in the most recent National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I National Poll. They were undefeated coming into the match and Saganich was the first person to score on Covenant in their first five games. Covenant is in the process of joining NCAA DIII, and is the newest member of the Great South Athletic Conference.

Salem returns to action tomorrow at the Spirit Field, when they host Warren Wilson College at noon.
