Newport News, VA-The Salem College track & field team ran at the New Captains Classic & Combined Events this past weekend. Elizabeth Penley and Stephanie Verdi had strong meets. Penley had two 8th-place finishes in the field events and Verdi had strong races in the 5000 and 10,000.

Penley finished in 8th of 13 participants with a long throw of 27.16 meters in the discus. She was 8th of 13 in the shot put with a throw of 8.83 meters. Verdi finished in 8th of 14 in the 5000 meter run with her season best time of 20:02.96. She was the only participant in the 10,000 meter run, but ran a strong time of 41:59.74. 

Tali Schroeder finished in 13th and Audrey Wierda finished in 14th in the 1500. Wierda was 9th in the javelin throw. Cristi Magracia finished in 7th in the 800 with a time of 2:44.39. Meghan Menard was 11th and Jasmine Romero was 12th in the 400 meter run, and Romero was 14th in the 200.
