DANVILLE, Va. — Ny'Kerasia Coleman tallied a game-high 15 points, hauling in five rebounds along the way, while three teammates added nine points apiece to lead Averett to a 72-38 victory at the Grant Center in Danville, Va., on Wednesday evening. 

Salem's offensive attack was led by Cree Bass, who poured in 14 points after hitting 5-of-19 from the floor. Bass was also responsible for four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Teammates Nicole Hester and Jade Ware added six point apiece, with Hester scaling the boards for five rebounds. Cristina Battistini was also active on the glass with five rebounds, contributing five points as well. 

Averett capped off the game by finishing 30-of-69 (43.5%) from the floor, adding 11 free throws, while Salem's offense was 12-of-58 (20.7%). The Spirits did convert four 3-pointers and were 10-of-20 (50%) at the free throw line. 

FIRST QUARTER: The Cougars opened the game on a 9-1 run, capped off by a Patience Ifidon layup, before Hester answered with a layup of her own at the 6:22 mark to notch the first Salem field goal of the game. Amy Pedroza answered with a jumper of her own and Hester put a pass from Bass for a layup, slicing the deficit to 9-7. The Spirits continued to chip away at the deficit, adding a free throw from Jade Ware to put the margin at one, before a 9-1 run by Averett stretched the score to 18-9. Bass capped off first quarter scoring with a long distance 3-pointer, which moved the Spirits to within six, 18-12. 

SECOND QUARTER: Averett used a 6-of-17 (35.3%) shooting performance in the second quarter to distance itself by a 33-18 margin at the half. The Cougars netted the first six points of the second quarter, but Hester came through with a free throw to put Salem on the board. After stretching the margin to 12, 25-13, Battistini knocked down a series of shots for the Spirits to trim the margin to 25-17. Averett closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run, including a layup from DaiShaundria Giggetts, which resulted in a 33-18 margin.  

THIRD QUARTER: The Spirits enjoyed their second double-digit quarter of the game, but Averett finished with a 19-10 edge as it stretched the lead to 52-28. Averett finished 8-of-19 (42.1%) in the frame, while Salem closed with four field goals, including two from beyond the arc. The Cougars scored seven unanswered before a pull up jumper by Bass resulted in the first Salem field goal. Averett followed with nine points, including a layup by Giggetts at the 2:24 mark, but it was a pair of Bass 3-pointers that helped provide Salem with its 28 points through three quarters. 

FOURTH QUARTER: Ware provided the Salem point in an 8-1 Cougars run to open the frame just under three minutes into the quarter. Pedroza converted a 3-pointer, while Chais White added two free throws, making for a 61-34 lead for the Cougars. Bass scored the final field goal of the fourth quarter for the Spirits, but it was an 11-4 run to close out the game that resulted in the 72-38 final.
