DECATUR, Ga. – The Salem soccer team opened its two-match, three-day road trip to Georgia with an impressive 4-2 victory over host Agnes Scott on Friday, September 6th. Salem received two goals each from Darilyn Nieto, resulting in the first win of the season and the 17th in the storied rivalry between the two programs.

Salem grabbed the early lead in the sixth-minute when Nathaly Berrezueta hit Nieto for the game's first goal. However, Agnes Scott answered with a strike of its own when Piper Martinsen evened the score with a strike in the eighth-minute of action.

Giselle Ramos put the Spirits back in front when she drove a header past netminder Olivia Rosario, following a Nieto corner kick in the 33rd-minute. Nieto pushed the Salem lead to 3-1 just before the close of the half when she drove home a pass from first-year teammate Hallie Kramer Nieto in the 43rd-minute.

Just over two minutes into the second half, Nieto notched her second assist of the match, when she hit an open Alexia Valente-Arreola, to give the Spirits a 4-1 lead. The final goal of the evening came off the foot of Viv Felso in the 69th-minute.

Salem goalkeeper Marissa Doutrich, along with key defenders Serenity Powell, Sky Sykes, Olivia Slayton and Kylie Toilolo kept the Scotties' offense in check with six shots over the course of the contest. Agnes Scott managed just four shots on goal.

Meanwhile, Salem countered with 28 shots (17 shots on goal), including seven from Nieto and five each by Berrezueta and Valente-Arreola. Ramos closed out a solid performance against the Scotties with three shots.
