Salem Tennis hosted Methodist on Saturday in their Conference Opener, ultimately falling 0-7.
The Monarchs got out to a hot start in doubles, taking the doubles point quickly. The No. 1 doubles team of Charlize Green and LaKasia Williams fell first with a final score of 0-6. Daisy Ortiz Mendoza and Yuridia Santana-Dominguez at No. 2 weren't far behind, falling 1-6. The No. 3 duo of Adley Keim and Kimberly Ortiz Mendoza kept things interesting, grabbing four games in their match.
Methodist kept their momentum rolling into singles, taking three quick matches with scores of 1-6, 0-6. Puja Lamsal finished first at No. 6, followed by Santana-Dominguez at No. 5, and K. Ortiz Mendoza at No. 4. Green battled in her match at No. 2, but was bested 0-6, 0-6.
Williams didn't make things easy for her opponent, taking two games in each set at No. 3. Keim took her match the distance, winning the first set 6-4, then falling in a close second set 5-7. Despite the strong fight, Keim fell 3-10 in the third set tiebreak.
The Spirits will next be in action on Tuesday March 31st where they travel to take on Southern Virginia.
