ELON, N.C. — The Salem tennis program returned to the courts for the first time since October 6, 2024, suffering a 7-0 setback to Elon on Saturday afternoon. It marked the second-ever clash between the two Triad-based programs.
The Phoenix assumed the 1-0 lead in the match as the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles posted 6-0 wins over their Salem opponents. The first of those wins came from the tandem of Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding, who downed
Mariana Faint and
Daisy Ortiz Mendoza. The No. 3 doubles pair of Ella Suk and Lisa Kranec claimed a 6-0 win over Salem's
Abrielle Eckenroth and
Emily Buckler.
Miray Konar accounted for the second Elon point in No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over
Samantha Smiley. Suk quickly moved that margin to 3-0 for the Phoenix with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against
Jessea James in No. 6 singles.
Reding picked up her second win of the afternoon, this time in No. 2 singles, as she took down
Cymone Crump by margins of 6-1, 6-0. Kranec stretched the margin to 5-0 in Elon's favor after a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Mendoza.
Elon's sixth point came by virtue of a 6-0, 6-0 victory from Helen Sarikulaya, who took down
Adley Keim in No. 1 singles. The final point for the Phoenix came from Madison Cordisco, who emerged with a 6-0, 6-0 win against
Mariana Faint.
