CLEMMONS, N.C. – Carolina University ran its winning streak in the head-to-head series to four games against Salem following a pair of wins by scores of 7-1 and 15-4 (5 innings) over the Spirits in softball action at Wilson Park in Clemmons, N.C., on Tuesday afternoon.
Salem closed out the first game of the doubleheader with nine hits, including two each from
Maleah Tate and
Kayla Dick. Tate was also active on the base pads with two stolen bases. The Spirits tallied three doubles over the course of the game from
NeVaeha George,
Kiersten Nelson and
Carmen Duffey.
The Salem offense was limited to six hits in five innings in the second game as the Bruins countered with 16 hits, including seven extra-base hits over the course of the game. Carolina's offense generated 15 runs behind four three-hit performances from ZyMaijah Thomas, Danielle Brooks, Kalea Bolch and Chloe Herbster.

CAROLINA U. HIGHLIGHTS
-Carolina grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the game in the first inning after a single from Kalea Bolch brought home two runs on a single to centerfield. Bolch came home on a passed ball.
-The Bruins stretched their lead to 6-1 in the home half of the fifth after a single to centerfield by Chloe Herbster scored both Lexi Hall and Nicole Otto. Cameryn Hays followed with a single to left, plating Herbster, which resulted in the third run of the frame.
-Carolina tacked on its final run of the game in the seventh following a double to left centerfield by Bolch, scoring ZyMaijah Thomas on the play.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS

Isabella Morales struck out two batters over three innings, allowing five earned runs among the 10 runs surrendered.

Griffin Pearce logged one inning in the circle, closing with one strikeout and allowing five hits and five runs along the way.

-Madison Hamilton picked up her fifth win of the season as she scattered six hits over five innings. Hamilton posted two K's and allowed three earned runs.
