BUENA VISTA, Va. – Southern Virginia tallied 19 hits, including 10 extra-base knocks, to earn a sweep of Salem in softball action when the two teams met in USA South Conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights took the first game of the series by a 10-3 margin before handing Salem a 6-0 setback at Harvey-Dryden Field in game two.
Rheanne Tullock led the way for the Spirits' offense in game one, finishing with a hit and an RBI in three at bats. Teammates
Kiersten Nelson and
Carmen Duffey were also responsible for two hits for Salem.
Salem struggled to find its offense rhythm in the second game, managing just two four hits. Two of those came from
Kayla Dick and
Madison Long in the seventh inning.

SALEM HIGHLIGHTS
-The Salem offense picked up its third hit of the day with a single to left off the bat of
Kiersten Nelson in the fourth.

Carmen Duffey kept the fourth inning alive with a single up the middle and
Reese Upton drew a walk to load the bases.

Rheanne Tullock reached on an error that allowed Nelson and Duffey to cross the plate as Salem sliced the lead in half, 4-2.
-With two out and
Reese Upton at first base, Tullock reached on a double to right centerfield, scoring her teammate for the third Salem run.
SOUTHERN VIRGINIA HIGHLIGHTS
-Southern Virginia scored two runs on two hits in the first, capitalizing on a hit from Chloe Nelson that moved teammate Arianna Prymak to second after a leadoff walk.
-Dykell Jones followed with a double to left centerfield, scoring both Nelson and Prymak, as the Knights established a 2-0 lead.
-Jones drew a walk to lead off the third, scoring on a triple from Katie Claytor, extending the lead to 3-0. With
Carmen Duffey in the circle, the Knights' Taelor Ware dropped a run-scoring bunt that provided the fourth run of the game.
-Southern Virginia stretched its lead to three runs, 5-2, in the fifth inning. After Jones tripled to down the left field line, Claytor followed with a double of her own, bringing her teammate home.
-Leading by two, 5-3, at the bottom of the sixth inning, Southern Virginia capitalized on five hits and two errors to make for a 10-3 game.
-The first of the five runs in the sixth came on a bunt single to the pitcher by Matea Manulelua, who scored Kaydence VanDivner. Manulelua trotted home on a grounder to short by Prymak, resulting in the 7-3 Salem advantage.
-Claytor blasted a two-run home run over the left field wall, allowing Southern Virginia to extend its lead to 9-3. The final run of the frame came on a double to left field by Sophia Badell, scoring Ware.

-Ware belted a two-run home run to center field in the fifth, stretching the Southern Virginia lead to 5-0.
-The Knights scored their final run of the game in the sixth on a Kaydence VanDivner singled through the right side of the infield to score Nelson from third after reaching base on a triple.
