STAUNTON, Va. – The pitching combination of Emily McCreery and McKenzie Tillman kept the Salem offense at bay as they completed a pair of complete game shutouts, lifting Mary Baldwin to wins of 8-0 (5 innings) and 5-0 when the two units clashed in a USA South Conference clash on Tuesday afternoon in Staunton, Va.
The Spirits managed just two hits in the first game of the day, both of which came from
NeVaeha George. Meanwhile, Mary Baldwin countered with 10 hits, including a 3-for-3 outing from McKenzie Tillman, who finished with an RBI and a run scored.
In the second game, Salem's top three hitters in the lineup—
Maleah Tate,
Kayla Dick and
Olivia Porter—tallied one hit and one stolen base apiece to lead the way. Salem also picked up hits from
Kat Price and
Griffin Pearce in the game.

NeVaeha George collected the first hit of the game for the Spirits in the first with a single. She followed with a single in the fourth in her second at bat.
MARY BALDWIN HIGHLIGHTS
-Leanna Rankin drew a leadoff walk and scored from second on a double by Hadley May in the home half of the first for the early 1-0 lead.
-May opened the fourth inning with a double, quickly moving to third on a single from McKenzie Tillman to put two Fighting Squirrels on the base pads.
-With the bases loaded, Allie Hurt drew a walk to score May from third for the 2-0 advantage.
-Trinity Thomas doubled the lead to 4-0 with a double, plating both Tillman and Madison Dinnella in the process. Ranking followed with a double of her own, capping as Mary Baldwin extended the lead to 6-0 in the fourth.
-Emily Hall scored Ranking on a single in the sixth, resulting in the seventh run of the game, and May followed that with her second double of the inning to keep the inning alive.
-May was responsible for the eighth Mary Baldwin run of the game, coming home on a single from Tillman, as the Fighting Squirrels scored seven runs on seven hits in the fourth frame.

-The Fighting Squirrels put the first run on the board in the third inning when Trinity Thomas drew a walk and teammate Leanna Rankin followed with a triple.
-Two batters later, with Rankin at third and two outs, Emily Hall brought her teammate home with an RBI single.
-Hadley May continued the inning with an RBI double, scoring Hall, as the Fighting Squirrels' lead grew to 3-0.
-Allison Crum opened the Mary Baldwin fourth with a double and moved to third when teammate McKenzie Parrish connected on a single in the following at bat. Two batters later, Thomas grounded out for the second out, allowing Crum to score from third for the 4-0 lead.
-Mary Baldwin added one run in the bottom of the sixth, which came when Thomas reached on an error that allowed Cru to score from third, resulting in a 5-0 advantage.
