A Look Ahead at this Week in Athletics

This week is another packed week for Salem Athletics, with four Volleyball games, one Soccer game, and one Cross Country meet.

Volleyball opens the week with their game against Pfeiffer, opening their conference season in Misenheimer, North Carolina tonight at 6pm. Facing off 15 times since 2017, Salem and Pfeiffer are familiar foes. The Spirits are currently on a seven-game winning streak against the Falcons, never dropping more than one set in their last seven contests. In the USA South Preseason Poll, Pfeiffer was slated to finish tied for 8th with NC Wesleyan, who Salem will face off with later this week.

Looking to continue their 22-game win streak at home, Salem Volleyball are taking on Warren Wilson on Thursday September 18th at 6pm. The two have only matched up once back in 2019, where Salem won 3-0, racked up 36 kills and 5 aces.

In their second home Tri-Match of the season, Salem Volleyball will host North Carolina Wesleyan at 12pm and Carolina University at 4pm on Saturday September 20th. As was aforementioned, NC Wesleyan is another conference opponent, having faced off with the Spirits 23 times since 2008. Salem has won 16 of those contests and impressively, have won the last 10. Nine of these last ten contests have been won in straight sets.

Even though Carolina U is right down the road, they have only faced off with the Spirits four times, with Salem winning each time. Their last matchup came just a few weeks ago at the Maroon Classic, with Salem winning 3-1. Aspen Bradley racked up 13 kills, Madison Bozarth had 26 digs, and Ella Brameus had a whopping nine aces.

Salem Soccer will also be competing on Saturday, looking to extend their September win streak against Randolph University at 4pm. Salem has faced off with Randolph five times, winning three. Losing their last two contests, the Spirits are looking to reclaim their former winning streak against the Wildcats after nearly a week with no contests.

Cross Country competes in their second meet of the season, traveling to the Yeti Invitational in Shelby, North Carolina. With four of their six athletes finishing under the 30-minute mark, the Spirits are looking to grow from their first meet since 2019 and rack up PRs for all of their runners.

Be sure to tune in to all the action this week in Salem Athletics!
