WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Salem first year Riley Dennis fanned eight St. Andrews hitters, while Carmen Duffey blasted a two-run home run and Reese Upton delivered a two RBI double, to help the Spirits earn a split with a 6-2 victory in game one at Blixt Field on Thursday afternoon. The Knights bounced back to take game two by a 5-3 margin, completing the second-ever series between the two programs.

Dennis (1-1) struck out eight of the 27 batters she faced, while allowing just two runs on seven hits in the victory. Salem took advantage of three-run second, highlighted by the Duffey home run and a Mackenzie Kramer double, to grab a 4-1 lead. The Spirits tacked on two runs in the sixth behind a double from Upton and a grounder by Kayla Dick, to close out their first win of the season by a 6-2 margin.

St. Andrews' Meghan Fritz limited Salem's offense in the second game to five hits, while she struck out five Spirit hitters to give the Knights a 5-3 win. St. Andrews notched four runs in the third, taking advantage of a Spirits miscue, with Fritz helping out her own cause with a two RBI single to right. Salem scored two runs in the sixth, courtesy a double by Olivia Porter, along with one in the seventh on an Upton sacrifice fly, but fell short in its rally.
