WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior
Kat Price sent a bases-loaded single over the outstretched hands of Brevard's Anna Graves, accounting for two of Salem's four runs in the fifth inning, helping capture a 9-7 win in game two of the USA South Conference doubleheader. The Tornados earned the win the first game of the series in 3-0 fashion as Salem completed its first league contests of the season.
Price's single in the fifth evened the game at six-all before
Maleah Tate reached on a fielding error that scored
Cree Bass for the go-ahead run two batters later. After Price scored to make for an 8-6 contest,
Reese Upton provided an insurance run in the form of a home run in the sixth inning.
Carmen Duffey capitalized on Salem's rally, winning her first game in the circle on the season after tossing four innings and fanning four Brevard sluggers.
The Spirits fell 3-0 in the first game of the doubleheader after collecting just four hits. Brevard, which tallied five hits, took advantage of two RBI by Rylee Locklear and an RBI from Regan Winkler to earn its first USA South win of the campaign.

Maleah Tate finished 2-for-3 at the plate, leading all Salem hitters. The Salem junior also came through with a stolen base.

BREVARD HIGHLIGHTS
-The Tornados broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning. With one out Andrea Furr reached on a single to right field. Two batters later, Jadyn Harlow drew a walk to put two on for Brevard.
-A double off the left field wall by Rylee Locklear plated the pair of Furr and Harlow for the 2-0 advantage.
-The Tornados picked up their third run of the game in the third after Analee Morris, who reached on a single to left field. After moving to third, Regan Winkler connected on a double to right centerfield, scoring Morris from third.

-The Spirits got on the scoreboard first in the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Maleah Tate singled to lead off the game for the Spirits, advancing to third on a throwing error that allowed
Kayla Dick to reach base on a bunt attempt.

Olivia Porter singled to right field, scoring Tate for the first run, as Dick advanced to third on the play.
Mackenzie Kramer followed in the lineup, coming through with a sacrifice bunt, that brought home Dick for the 2-0 Salem lead.
-Salem took advantage of a hit in the third inning, slicing the deficit to 6-3.

Jelene Avila reached on an infield error, scoring Porter from third for the Spirits.
-Salem continued its rally in the fourth as Tate reached on a single to third. Dick reached on a bobbled ball at the centerfield wall, before the pair put themselves in scoring position with a double steal.
-Porter flied out to left field, scoring Tate as a result, as the Spirits moved within two runs.
-The Spirits regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth after loading the bases for senior
Kat Price, who delivered a one-out single into right field to knot the game at six-all.

BREVARD HIGHLIGHTS
-Brevard retaliated with a three-run second inning, capitalizing on four hits to score six runs and assume a 6-2 lead. Jadlyn Harlow reached base on an error, scoring Addie MacDougall for the first Brevard run. Two batters later, Addison Smith dropped a double into right centerfield, scoring both Harlow and Andrea Furr for the 3-2 advantage.
-Analee Morris connected on a single and Michaela Jones had a single, scoring Smith and Morris in succession as the Tornados established a 5-2 lead for Brevard.
-Regan Winkler brought home Jones for the final run of the second on a fielding error.
-The Tornados trimmed the Salem lead to 8-7 with a run scored in the top of the sixth. The run came as Annalee Morris reached on an error that allowed Rylee Locklear to score from second.
